Nice Class Today

I am teaching some women from Haiti some rules about writing research papers for college courses. They really do need the help.

Retruned from Tampa

Just returned from a visit to Tampa, but never got to see my grand daughter . That was the purpose of the trip. I was  disappointed that we did not connect . I hope  she and her boyfirend will come to see us next since us going there did not work out.

Fancy Nancy Says: People are too busy today. Young people need to take more time and value friends and famiily more. In life family and friends are very important. Don't ignore them.  You will regret it later.

Getting Appliances Repaired

We are back in Florida and have spent the past two weeks getting appliances repaired:
    The computer, the TV, the car, the vacuum, and I am ready to get time out from all the appliance.s They must miss me when I am away. This is their reventge.

Back in Naples and Got things Fixed

We just returned and found nothing worked. So far we had the air condtiioner repraired the refrigerator needed help, the disposal, phone, computer and car were all sick. After two days most of them are getting better. They must miss us when we are away.

We relocate this week. Tomorrow the dentist

Just as we are getting ready to relocate, I had a tooth break. I was lucky to call the dentist who returned my call from a conference he was attending. He was so nice. He will see me tomorrow on his day off. I really need rubber teeth that won't break.

Finishing Medical Stuff

As we get ready to relocate we are finishing up our medical apts. Also, we are saying goodbyes to family and friends. It is nice to know that we will see them again when we return in May. We arrive in Naples and already we are booked with our Naples friends and activities. I do like living in two places.

Problems posting new titles

This week I have searching for ways to write new blogs. There is now a new heading that just came up called new post. Otherwise there was no way for me to post a new item. Computers are great when they work. When they give you problems they are very frustrating.

Fun in Writing Class

Just wrote a piece for my writing class. We had to write about our best friend. I did a fun  piece all fiction on my imagination. It included my exotic birthday gifts of a Greek cruise on a yacht, a 4 carat emerald and a new house in Nantucket. It is amazing what the imagination can create. Had fun writing it, and even ended with a share in the Brooklyn Bridge,. The tolls should be great !

Check your statements

Yesterday I got a broker statement and was surprised to see something I did not expect. There was a loss and I thought there should have been a profit on a sale. I just wrote to my broker to explain what happened. Time will tell.

New Instant chord maker

Just learned about a new  instant chord maker for the uke. This would save sore fingers. I might buy one. Two more classes at the library and then we leave for Florida where I also teach starting Nov. I do enjoy my classes and I learn from my students as well.

Two music students arrive

Just two students arrived at my music program. It was fine, but we decided to cancel the other two classes since the class was so small. In any case I tried. Saw the Jane Fonda movie tonight . All about the family getting together for shiva. There were many surprises.

Kitchen Update

Bought a cute small table to store some items. This will add a counter top. My kitchen is so small that counter space is limited. Glad to have this new addition. Tomorrow is my musical happening at the senior center. I have no idea what will happen and if anyone will arrive. Time will tell.

Good lunch at the senior center

The local senior center provides an excellent lunch for only $3.00. Today they had chicken marsala with beans and noodles plus pineapple, cottage cheese and all this for a small donation. They do a really good job feeding many folks 60 and up.

Doing a Music Program

Next week I am running a musical happening at the senior center. I am learning the uke and I asked people to join me for fun music. I have no idea what will happen or who will arrive, but is a happening. One never knows the results.

Thursday Writing Class

I teach writing but I also take a class. Today we had the class and it was fun to hear what the other writers shared. Many of my students are now attending this class as well.

Really enjoyed my class today. They want to continue so the library is allowing the class to meet all through Oct. That works for my schedule and will be a bonus for the group and for me .

Wonderful family party

Yesterday we celebrated my son's birthday. He seemed to really enjoy his party. We all wrote about him and he got some fun gifts. I was so glad to give him the party. He deserved it. He is a great guy.

Female Plumber Arrived

Today a woman plumber arrived to fix my sink. She did a good job. The world is changing. Went to a writing class, and then took a ride to Newport on a lovely fall day. Newport was not mobbed like in the summer.

Painting and a Walk

Went to finish my new painting and then took a long walk on a beautiful fall day. Cleaned my closet and got rid of lots of clothes. When I go home and looked at the closet it still is too full. I guess we all have too many things. Tomorrow is writing class. The plumber is due to fix the sink. It leaks.

New Class Today at a Different Library.

Met today with a new class at the local library. A smaller group, but really nice folks. They are writing life stories. Got my cell phone fixed and then came home and had a nice nap. Started a new painting. It will be like the one I gave my to my daughter, and it will be much larger. I will be doing a musical happening for the senior center. I don't know who will come, but time will tell.

Painted a Zany Picture

I painted a zany picture and I gave it to me daughter. She said she loved it. I enjoy giving my art to anyone who really likes it. I don't have much talent, but I like to do fun pictures.

Apple Picking Today

A fun afternoon apple picking . New England is lovely in the fall. Lots of kids picking apples off the trees.   A lovely fall Sunday in Rhode Island.

First Class Today was a Success

I ran my first library class today and there were 15 people who attended. I am teaching writing and today it was life story writing. I enjoyed teaching and then came home and enjoyed a nice long nap.

My classes at two libraries are now full

I start to teach at two libraries and both programs are now filled. I do still enjoy my teaching. Today I did some painting and then saw a movie at the library.

Waiting for Home Service

I have booked Home Service several times and each time they were booked,  they did not call to cancel and failed to arrive on time. Perhaps they should be renamed No Service. It seems they need to review their policy since so far it is not working well.

Fancy Nancy Says: They are supposed to compensate me for my waiting time. We will see if it happens.

It pays to dispute a bill

Worked on getting a corrected bill from the town. I had a water leak in a pipe and by saving the bill I was able to get my sewer bill corrected as well. It pays to dispute a bill when you think it is wrong. Always do you work in writing , date it and sign it. That is far better than trying to get things done by phone.

Rupert does a New Trick

Enjoyed a visit from my grand dog Rupert who now does a new trick. If you hide a treat for him and close both hands, he will point with his paw at the hand that has the treat. He is usually correct. What a smart dog. Rupert leads a great life with many weekends at the beach. Not a bad dog's life.

Richard and Betsy's Resort

Just enjoyed an overnight visit to the mountains . What a great job the kids did with their new house. A real treat to see the results of a big project.

Today I presented a program called " Why We Write". I had three authors and a lively audience so it was a hit. I love doing programs that have a responsive audience. It really makes a difference. Due to do two more writing workshops in Sept.

Wow, just noticed we are over 11,000 on the blog. Great. Love to hear from my readers. Today I was delighted to learn that my Life Story Writing for Sept. is sold out. Great! I am doing another program on Wed. and then another one in Sept. also a writing workshop.

Uke Concert at Senior Center

Played my uke today at a senior center. It is hard to get them really involved. They are more interested in lunch. Also had a nice massage. Need to learn how to handle seeing the music and play at the same time.

Good Uke Lesson and Banking Day

Enjoyed my uke lesson with my wonderful daughter,my uke teacher. She and he husband have done a great job with a free program for the community. They usually have 45 or more folks attend. Also took care of some banking needs and was pleased with the results.

Surgery is over---Hooray!

Yesterday I had dental surgery. It was totally painless. I had an IV and then I never felt a thing. I did not even have to take any pain meds after the surgery. That was amazing to me. I am always glad when surgery is over. I am now missing back teeth on both sides of my mouth, but if I can function without them, then I will not do any replacements. Time will tell.

Catching up!

Since I was away last week, today it was time to catch up with things like bills, and E-mail. Then we took  a nice walk by the ocean. It is lovely to live near the ocean. The weather was just great.

Wonderful Chicago Visit

Wonderful four day trip with my daughter to Chicago. Loved the city and the buildings are gorgeous. I was most impressed with how clean it was and all the beautiful flowers everywhere. We packed in the tours and had a ball.

Booked dental surgery

Well the dentists agreed, the tooth has to go. Will have the surgery Aug. 15th. They both said I do not have a choice. One less tooth. A nice lunch with friends and then a nice nap. Working on getting the word out on the library seminars that I will be doing. I am doing three programs at three different libraries.

A nice day in Conn. trying to find a Rebox show outlet. Finally found it and then had a lovely dinner in Mystic. Tomorrow is dentist day again. Will learn more if I have to lose a tooth. My authors program will run in Aug. so now I am doing the publicity for it.

Dental Problems Can Keep Me Busy

Today I consulted with a dental surgeon. At some point I will have to have one or two teeeth pulled. Right now they have me on an antibiotic. Since the tooth is under a bridge, two dentists will be involved. My teeth are my real diamonds. All my money goes into them.

Working on Teeth, Seminars, and Writing Programs

This week I am trying to deal with a tooth problem so the dentist just put me on an antibiotic. Hope it works. Also, I am enjoying several programs I am taking and in Aug. and Sept. I will be presenting programs for three different libraries. I find that the libraries offer some wonderful programs for the public and the are all free.

Learning to Play the Uke

Had another lesson today and my daughter is an excellent teacher with lots of patience. I am enjoying learning to play the uke. Lots of fun songs once you know the basic chords.

A Uke Presentation

Today I played for my first uke audience. I take a writing class and we were to tell what we did this summer. I bought a ukulele and my daughter has been giving me lessons. I was very brave and played one song for my writing class and they sang with me and applauded at the end. It was fun and I am enjoying a new toy.

Hearing Workshop

Did a hearing workshop at the library today. 14 attended. I thought it went well. We always want a larger crowd, but it was a rainy day. I enjoy doing library programs. I am booked with three different libraries this summer and some in Florida in the spring.

Wonderful Family Outing with the Krims

A fun family party with my sister and her whole family. It was nice to see everyone together sharing Steph's college graduation. It seems the next generation is really on their way. They are all grown up.

Fun Interview with a Former Student

I had a library interview today and I was delighted to renew time with a former student now the librarian. When you teach for a while you meet some lovely students. It is often hard to remember all their names. They somehow remember you.

Writing Class, Exercise and Even the Dentist

Today was a full day, but fun. Went to my writing class and then my exercise class. Met a lovely woman and we chatted as we exercised. I was amazed to learn that she will be located this winter in Florida not far from us.. I am sure we will connect there . Her husband plays tennis with my partner as well.

Fun Uke Class

Tonight we attended a fun uke class. It was interesting to hear some of the students perform. This was just the second class, but the performers were not beginners. I can now perform two songs. I find the fingering tough, but I am doing better.

My Second Uke Lesson

My daughter is such a patient teacher. I now know how my students feel when they are new at a project. I will go on Wed. to their uke workshop to be held at the local library. They are really promoting the program and probably 50 will arive. My daughter is a wonderful support system for he husband. He is lucky to have her in his life.

Learning the Uke

My daughter gave me my first uke lesson. Strumming is okay, but doing the chords can be a problem. My fingers don't want to go where they are supposed to go. Tonight I watched some free videos on playing the uke. The only song I could play is Frere Jacques since all I have to do is sturm the C chord.

Booked a Family Party

Just booked a family party for our Early Thanksgiving. Since we are all at different places in Nov. we celebrate the holiday much earlier. Why not. The important part is for everyone to get together. I look forward to family parties.

Exercise

Went to swim on Saturday and exercise on machines on Sunday. Try to use the Y since it can get too hot outside. Had a nice visit from Rupert , my grand dog. He now knows where I live and I love his visits.

Fancy Nancy Says: Grand dogs can be lots of fun. Like grandchildren  they visit and the parents have the rest of the work. Fun!

Writing Class and Dentist Day

Joined my writing class briefly before my dental apt. I do enjoy the class since it gets me writing. We had to write dialogue, so I wrote about a discussion with myself as a Gemini. We Gemini's are twins, so there are two in one.

My Uke Needs Help

Tried to tune my new uke and one string would never tighten. Guess I will go back to the music store to see if they know what caused the problem. Trying a new skill does take patience.

Fancy Nancy Says: Start all over  if you have to. You can't learn in a day. You need to understand the instrument.

New Uke Bought Today

My daughter helped me buy a ukulele and I think I will enjoy learning how to play. I always loved the piano, but with hearing issues, music changed. It should be fun to learn a new instrument.

Learning About Ukes

Went to a uke workshop and tried to see if I would want to buy one. Then went online and there are some good free videos to teach you. Also saw a video about how to buy a uke. Time will tell, but I always like to learn. So glad to see lots of new friends online for my blog. How did you find it?

Wonderful Uke Program

Attended a wonderful uke program where my son-in-law attracted a large group to teach the ukelele . I did not do the finer pointes, but strummed along anyway. He enjoys this project and he attracts a nice crowd. Anyone can attend and it is free. The library gave them the room to use for workshops. People of all ages attended.

Rainy Medical Day

Today it rained all day.Had medical apts. and tried to set up delivery for a new refrigerator. This past week was a medical week. We sure keep the doctors in business. As we get older it takes more time to patch the body.

Medical Day and Rupert Visit

Did two medical apts. today and then tonight had a surprise visit from my son and his granddog Rupert. The dog is due for his monthly harido and it costs a lot more than my haircuts. My son seems to enjoy having the dog visit. It is like he has a grandchild now.

Birthday Lunch

A fun birthday lunch with my niece Jane. She told me all about her new projects. Drove golf balls and it was very windy. Then home for a nice nap. Tomorrow another medical day.

Lahey Visit

Just returned from a good visit to Lahey Clinic. All is well and they are excellent. It pays to go to the best.

Wonderful Family Weekend

We were lucky to see all our family this weekend. We wish it could happen more often. They look great and the grandkids are adults at this point. What a joy it was to connect. We look forward to another get together in Sept. Not too far away. We have a very nice family.

Medical Day

I do keep the medical community in business. Today I saw my internist and then 2 hours at the dentist. They do not need a pension plan with me as a client.

Nice Visit With College Friends

Today we had lunch with two wonderful college friends. There were 6 of us since we each brought a partner. We talked about our next big reunion which is in two years--- 60 years out of college. Hard to believe where the time went. I am the only one still taking fun job interviews.

Wonderful Birthday

Loved a fun day on my birthday. Enjoyed lunch with my daughter and then went to a fun evening at an artist's home . It was like a European salon where people performed and shared cultural things. A cellist performed, an artist shared pictures and a unique time. I have fun.

Nice Early Birthday Day

Today I handled several things. I made an arrangement to barter my refiregerator for some massages. I had ordered a new one. Then my massage therapist showed me the house I had to find to tomorrow afternoon. It was tucked into a road that had a rope cutting off entry. Next we had a nice theatre afternoon and saw a musical. Tomorrow is my actual birhtday and I got lots of nice E-mails. Many thanks in advance to all. It is always fun to connect.

Boy , It is Cold!

New England is known for changes in the weather. Yesterday it was gorgeous, about 90 and today it feels like winter, about 35 rainly and cold. That is New England for you. Caught up with some paperwork, then played bridge this afternoon. Tomorrow I have class again and then the ear doctor. I am working on my summer schedule. Each time we relocate there are transitiions before we settle in.

Interesting Day Today

Met with an author who will speak at the program I am presenting in Aug. I enjoy meeting new folks and today I also started at new class at the Y. It is called Live Strong. Nice ti connect with new people.

Familiy Time

We returned to Rhode Island and learned of family illness. Today we went to a funeral as a result. Don , Marty's brother-in-law died. He has been sick for 9 years and finally the cancer won. A sad day for all.

Looks Like A New Format for Posts

When I hit the word link it allows me to type. Otherwise I am unable to type. Computers are strange.

Fancy Nancy is not a computer whiz.

Now I can type again. I do not know what happened. In any case we returned up north and took care of lots of medical appointments. Working on getting a summet schedule for teaching. I do not know what I hit to allow me to type again. Computers can confuse for sure.

Learned from research that the red shoes from the Wizard of Oz were really silver shoes not red in the actual book. What a discovery!

Medical Day

Trying to finish up medical apts. before we leave next week. We had a nice weekend with plans on two nights. Today I was happy to finish writing a special book for my son. I had been working on it for a while, and since he does not like clothes for a gift, I thougt I would write him a book about himself. The book is not long, but it recalls for him some of his speical gifts that he has. I hope he will enjoy reading it.

Getting Closer to Leaving

We    are connecting with good friends before we leave. This week we will be wrapping up things and the car leaves on Sat. Relocating reminds me of the end of summer camp. Everyone has mixed emotions.

A Wonderful Teaching Day

I had three students this morning and one this afternoon. A very productive teaching day. I always enjoy my students and I hope they have the same feeling about the classes. I am happy a nice young man get a job as well. Hope he at least gets an interview.

Working on Getting Ready to Relocate

When you relocate you have to check that your banks know your new address. They often will not forward your statements otherwise. Today I was working on checking my accounts and I noticed that one new account was not accurate.

Fun Class With My Student Today.

I have a lovely student who I am working with weekly. She has a lot ot skills and I know she will find what she is looking for. Right now she is in a search. I wrote an article and was amazed to learn that the ruby red shoes in the movie THE WIZARD OF OZ  were actually silver shoes in the book.

Social Time in Florida

Many folks are getting ready to relocate up north. It reminds me of the end of season at summer camp. The grandparents have been in winter camp. Now they are getting ready to go north. We are lucky to avoid the cold northrn winters. We do not miss the snow.

Zipper Club Meeting

A full day. Medical apt. with new skin Dr. Teaching, and then the zipper club and in between the rug cleaner. Got it all in a very full day. Love my student . She is searching for her new life. More like therapy than teaching writing. In either case, she has many talents and will soon find her new life.

Medical Day Again

Trying to get rid of a problem so it was back to the skin doctor. She will try something new and see if it works. Healing the body is sometimes a trick. I got the lab results and I think that may help. Always some part that needs help at this age. Which part do you fix first? Lucky I got in to see the skin doctor when I went to the office. She saw me and I did not have an apt. I was lucky.

Wonderful Mother/Daughter Time

I always enjoy my time with my wonderful daughter. It was so nice to have an overnight with her and enjoy a comfortable hotel nearby. We do it twice a year and would love it more times as well. It seems that families get very busy and we have to make time for each other.

Getting Things Updated

We relocate in a month so I have started to get things updated. All my addresses have to be changed for accounts. Many of the banks will not forward statements or mail. Just hired a new driver for the car. We have several end of the year parties before folks relocate.

Nice Overnight Trip

We took a short overnight trip just an hour away. In sptie of the fact that we were not gone even 24 hours, when we got home it felt much longer. It does pay to take even a short get-away. The change is uplifting.

My last blog stated if you need somthing ask for it. I needed a driver to take my car north. I did ask and just hired a lovely person from where I work. I asked and it worked.

Just heard a good book on tape with the title, One Day At A Time. It seems like a good plan for everyone. Yesterday, the person who was due to drive my car up north got sick. Today I started to network and I think I have two people interested in the job. Networking pays!

Last night I had prepared a lovely dinner, but no guests arrived. They may have told my partner, but he never told me that they were not coming. Well as  a result, we saw a movie and we now have a full refrigerator. The best part is I do not have to cook for a while. We have a lot of food left over.

Meeting of the Zipper Club

Tonight we went to a meeting of the zipper club. Most of the folks there had recovered from heart surgery. Today they glue you together, no more stitches. A lot easier on the patient.

Fancy Nancy Says: I was glued together last summer after an accident. It beats having stitiches.

Bank Proposals

Went to the private bank to present proposals for writing client life stories. I don't know if they will be interested, but I have nothing to lose by asking.

Nice Getaway

This weekend we had a nice overnight trip and Marty did well. We did not go very far, but it still was a good change. I find for me even an overnight change helps me feel better.

Library Proposals

Today I talked to the local library to see if I could present some programs for next season. They said they are booking programs now so I might have a chance. I do love to teach and this teaching season classes have been very small. Time will tell.

Saw the movie Nebraska

Tonight we saw the movie Nebraska. I thought the acting was excellent. The subject is a bit depressing, but maybe because we are getting older it hits home. Overall a lovely Florida day.

Things are improving. Marty is stronger and I can  relax a bit now. Thank goodness surgrey is behind us .

Marty is healing and things are getting better. He is getting back some of his energy. It is amazing what they can do medically today. Many lives are saved with new medical techniques.

A Quiet Class, no students

Students have not arrived this week. Need to do some marketing. Have been too busy with helping Marty recover. A relaxing day and evening.

A Good Day

Today I was able to send off papers to try to get a cardiologist up north. I wrote a lovely letter and I hope it works. Just getting a good doctor to accept a patient is sometimes a trick.

Marty's son arrived to check on his recuperation. Marty is doing well and making good progress.

Where Did the Month Go?

We are now at the end of February. This month flew by. I have been busy with Marty's recuperation and trying to correct a banking problem. I hope to fit in some fun things before it is time to relocate.

Things Are Improving

Marty is getting stronger and we changed doctors. If you have to make changes, it pays in the long run.

An Overnight Getawau

We were able to get away just for an overnight. I really needed it. Marty came home exhausted and slept most of the day. It is going to take him more time than he realized for his body to heal. The time away did me good.

Lovely Florida weather

Today I went to teach. There were no students, so I used the time to write a brochure for all the programs that I teach. Marty is still very tired, but he is driving now. That is a real help.

An Exhausting Time

For the past several weeks my partner has been in the hospital with heart surgery. He came home and then had to return to the hospital. Right now, I think things are getting better. It has been a very rough time for both of us.

Surgery is Done Now it is Time to Heal

Marty had heart bi-pass surgery yesterday. A tough one. Today was also tax day and I will have to close an account to avoid check theft. Does three problems make a record to one day? I need a break. The interesting part was that a Croatian priest who speaks no English wants to take my class. Should be interesting.

Facing Major Sugery is No Picnic

My partner will be have bi-pass heart surgery on Thrusday. This 12 days he has been in the hospital and now the tests all say he needs a heart bi-pass. It is a very scary time. I am overwhelmed by what is going on. I hope all will go well . Medical issues can really be tough.

Teaching Today A Break from Medical Issues

I find that my teaching is so good. I enjoy the work and it helps me to relax. We have some very serious medical issues to deal with. Surgery on Monday for my partner , he has no choice.

Tough Times Right Now

My partner is in the hospital and due for heart. Medical issues can be tough. His kids will come in and one just left for Ca. He is handling it, but it is not fun for either of us. I guess we just have to hang in there.

Computer and Medical Problems

My computer is having aol problems. The company is lousy. I am too busy with medical issues. to wait online to get help. They don't have phone help on Sundays. Life can be complicated . Medical issues can also be a problem. I am dealing with both. Not fun!

Dentist Today

I am my dentist's pension plan. I had my teeth cleaned and naturally there is more work to be done. Saving my teeth is a full time job. I have my teeth cleaned every 6 weeks and yet I still have cavities when I go for a checkup. You have to be lucky with your health.

Feeling better

Fianlly after taking 3 different medications, I have stopped coughing. Bronchitis can be tough coupled with asthma. It has gotten warmer thank goodness. We saw Mandella the movie. Well done.

Today I saw a Naples doctor. He said not more antibiotics. I am starting to feel better. Naples medicince does not compare to Lahey Clinic.

I had two nice men on class and both of them were jouranlists. Enjoyed connecting with family for dinner.

Still Working on Shaking a Cold

On Thurs. I return to the doctor to see if I need a third med to shake my cough. I still have it. Closed a bank account today since the bank insisted on charging $30 per month and I don't even use the account. I felt the manager at the bank did a poor job of handling the problems.

Dealing with health issues is not always easy.

I am still having bronchitis in spite of two different antibiotics. On Thurs. I will see the doctor to ask him to test to find what strain of bateria I have. I am better, but I still am coughing . Also, I am trying to help my partner who has medical issues. He is doing better, but I am running into family complications. LIfe can be tough at times.

Fancy Nancy Says; Some things are tougher than others to handle. Health issues are up there as tough problems.

A Six Hour Wait at the Walk In Clinic

Today I decided I needed a chest xray. I have had a cold for a week and in spite of an antibiotic, I was still coughing and feeling lousy. I entered the clinic at noon and they said why are you here? I answered I think I have bronchitis. After six hours , a chest xray, the diagnosis was bronchitis.

Fancy Nancy Says: In my next life should I be a doctor???? No way! They gave me very costly medicine that tastes vile for $175. My insruance did not cover the medicine. They should pay me for taking the stuff. Happy 2014.

Lahey Clinic is Just Great

Just returned from wonderful Lahey Clinic. They helped with our medical issues. The doctor there gave us each about 2 hours of his time. Most doctors don't even give you 15 min. After many tests, they gave my partner a medicine that so far is working. It pays to find the best doctor and the best medical advice. We just returned from cold Boston, but it was worth the trip.

Fancy Nancy Says: Travel if you have to and get the best medical advice. It will pay off.
