Teaching Is Fun

I am delighted to say that I now have students in both my new classes at the Park. Fleischmann's Park is owned by the city of Naples, and in addition to my new classes, it offers lots of classes for all ages. They even have a skateboard run for skateboard enthusiasts.

Besides my classes, I am now doing tutoring. I have a delightful 9 year old boy, and I am helping him prepare for the Florida FCAT test. This week has been very full since I have to complete my taxes as well.

I do not have to wonder how to use the time. In spite of cold weather, I have been busy teaching, which is fun.

Today was full with line dancing at 9am, then a seminar at 10am and a business apt. at 1pm and a fun relaxing walk to the library and my favorite store, The Bargain Box. A very full day, but I enjoyed it.

FACEBOOK IS NEW TO ME

Today I met with my student from Argentina. Mario has helped me with Facebook. He is interesting and shares things about his country , Argentina. I enjoy talking with him.

Today I went swimming for the first time in a long time. It finally got warmer. Tomorrow I will teach my new class at the Park. I have some interesting students this year. Teaching is fun.

I am meeting lots of people on Facebook. Congratulations to my grandson Ben who has developed a new game on Facebook.

Life Story Class Ended Today

Today I completed the first class that I taught at the Renaissance Academy. My students were delightful and I hope they will continue writing their life stories. It is always fun to have an opportunity to work with new and interesting students.

I start to teach this course again in March. Now, I have to finish up my taxes for 2009. I finally got the needed information that I have been waiting for.

I enjoyed listening to a wonderful lecture and slides on Mars. The professor really knew his stuff ,and the slides were amazing. I suspect that since they seem to have some water on Mars, there may be some form of life as well. Time will tell.

The courses at the Renaissance Academy that I have taken this year and in the past are very well done. It is nice to be able to teach there and also take courses as well.

Facebook is Fun

I am now on Facebook and I am learning how it works. Sometimes I am unable to click to respond. Other times it works. I don't know if there is a trick to responding.

Today I played tennis in the morning and then I went to a lecture about Spinoza in the afternoon. The weather is improving in Florida. My daughter Lynn was so helpful . She always has good advice when I am trying to make a decision. Lynn is patient and understanding and she is an excellent listener. Congratulations to Lynn!!! Thanks!

Writing Class and the Bargain Box

This morning I attended writing class and shared some of my blog writing with the group. They are writing novels, so my writing is a bit different.

It was finally a lovely ,sunny day, so I walked to my favorite store, the Bargain Box and bought a great pants outfit for $10. Then home to one of my other favorite activities--- a nice nap!

Line Dancing and Condo Looking

Today was interesting. In the morning I went to line dancing. The only setback was that I had lost my car keys, so Marty loaned me his key to my car. I enjoyed line dancing and then I visited three condos on the market right at the same place. The condos were amazing since they were all in good shape. The units are older, but I am looking to see if I might want to purchase one as an investment.

It seems that the only time you can make a profit is if the condo market goes up in the future. Then on to lunch with a friend. After lunch the best thing happened, I actually found my car keys. Great! I was so happy to have them again.

A nice afternoon walk to the market and then my favorite, a nap. Overall a good day for Fancy Nancy.

Writing Class and A Birthday Party

My writing class at the Park is working out. I enjoyed helping the students with their writing projects. I still need more students for Speed Reading , but with time some will arrive.

It has been a real challenge to start a new program at a facility that never offered programs for the mind . They always had only programs for kids and programs for the body. I am happy that my program is working.

This afternoon we had a unique birthday party . There were 60 folks who arrived. The unusual part was that the guests had to pay for their own dinners. They did have an acting group perform. I have never been to a birthday party where the guests paid for the dinner. Maybe this is a new style of entertaining. I found it very strange!

Life Story Class and A Look at Another Condo

I enjoyed teaching my Life Story class. I have some lovely students. We have only one more week for this course and then in March I start to teach a new section.

In the afternoon I had fun hitting tennis balls with my friend Ronnie. The weather finally got nicer so it was great to be outside enjoying a beautiful day.

From tennis I went to see another condo at my golf course location. The person I called just left the door open , and told me to take a look . I did , and although the unit is older , it was clean and in good shape. I called the owner and and at first the husband said he would only sell at the list price. I told him that I was interested, but not at the list price.

Not even ten minutes later his wife contacted me,and asked what I would bid. I gave her a low bid, and she said she would check the price of other units, and she would get back to me.

I will wait for her reply by E-mail . In the meantime, I have my price limit in mind, and I would be interested only if they meet my price. Time will tell, but it is a challenge to negotiate.

Valentine's Day Class Reunion 2010

Every year my former writing class has an annual Valentine's Day class reunion. This year was wonderful. I always have fun prizes and this year I asked everyone to think of what I could do with a bargain I bought at a consignment store to $3. It was a very long white silk piece of material that could be used as a drapery on a window. I asked everyone to suggest how I could use it. The funniest answers included the following:

1. Return it and get your money back 2. Use it to cover my plants in the cold weather 3. Use it for a Circque Soleil routine. 4. Dump it! 5. Have students sign it with their names.

The winner got the huge white curtain to take it home to cover her plants. We had a lot of laughs with their ideas. They also told us what they were doing in writing since last year. They really enjoy these reunions, and I have fun seeing everyone as well. I ran this group called the Writing Workshop for 18 years.

I then looked at a condo for sale at a nearby golf course. The place was a mess, and the renter in their now was a smoker. The bed was not made, the kitchen was filthy, and overall the condo was old. Even though the owner only wants $115,000, it would need to be repainted and fixed up. The condo overlooks the golf course , and that is a plus. The owner is 84 years old, and he says he wants to sell since he has some medical issues. I gave him a Valentine's present for his wife. I do not think I will give him even a low offer to buy the place. It was fun to see it though.

Line Dancing and Speaking at a Hearing Meeting

This morning I went to another line dancing class that is held where I play my fun golf. There are about 20 ladies in the class. It seems that not many men enjoy line dancing.

After that I attended a meeting of the Hearing Association and at the end of the meeting I mentioned my book HEARING LOSS AND WINNING SOLUTIONS. One lady who also used Dr. Lee my surgeon for my implant bought a copy. I also showed one of my canes and mentioned that a cane can be very helpful to those with hearing problems. Finally , I shared my idea of using an umbrella stroller as a protection when crossing the street. My stroller is such a help. I carry all my things in it, and it saves my back as well. They laughed when I told them for only $10 they could get one at CVS.

Hurray! Students Arrived at my Writing Workshop

I was delighted today to have 4 students arrive at my writing class at the park. One was an intersting male dentist, and the others were ladies . I was thrilled to have an actual class. It does pay to market since the dentist learned about my class from a flyer that I put in the library where I go line dancing.

I also made a connection with the bank and we will offer a program in April . The title of the program will be Women and Finance. Now I have to let 12 women know that they are invited to a free seminar on two separate dates. This beats waiting for the ladies group I belong to who said I could not offer anything until next season.

When you deal with a ladies group you have to comply with their rules, even if it does not make good sense. I am better off planning my own programs. I seem to be good at getting things running and off the ground.

This Sunday we have a class reunion for a writing class that I taught for 18 years. We meet each year on Valentine's Day to enjoy being together. It is a fun get together. I do enjoy my writing groups.

Spanish Class, Tutoring, and Lunch

Today was a full fun day with Spanish class, lunch with a former student, and time with Mario my new student from Argentina.

Last night we had my Spanish class teacher and her husband for dinner. It was a lovely evening. Today after class I met with a former writing student and we had a long lunch and exchanged ideas about plays that we are both writing.

Later a delightful two hour time with Mario from Argentina. He taught me all about some excellent Spanish programs online. He is very smart and picks up languages very easily. It is so interesting learning about Cordorba , Argentina which is his home.

Fancy Nancy Considers Attending A Conference

I just found out that in June the Hearing Association is having their annual conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I have never attended a conference, but they said if I wish I could bring my book HEARING LOSS AND WINNING SOLUTIONS for distribution and sales.

I need more information about the cost of the conference, but I am considering going. Time will tell.

I started a new writing program at the place where I teach and I met some lovely fellow students. It is always fun to connect with others and enjoy new friendships. One student knows a lot about sewing. I have a new machine. She said she would help me with sewing, and I will help her with writing. Another nice bartering situation will take place.

For many years I have belonged to a hearing association. Each year they have a conference, but I have never attended. I understand that this year the conference will be in Wisconsin. They are offering a discount for new conference attendees. Once I know the details I will condsider going. It is in June and time will tell. Fancy Nancy May Rethink Volunteer Jobs

Recently I joined a women's organization. They do offer some excellent programs and there are many lovely women in the program. I said that I would do some volunteer programs next season and even offered to do one this season.

The organization is run with a chain of command. Usually, when I do a program for pay, I go directly to the person in charge and make an agreement. Doing volunteer programs could be okay, but they present a different format.

I will have to review whether I am willing to go through the hurdles of the chain of command when there is a different process and no pay. For the moment, I need to rethink what my priorities are. In the meantime , I will not make any final decisions about next season until I have more information for future planning.

I do know that once you are dealing with committees of ladies, it can take a lot longer to accomplish your goals. Time will tell about my decision, but for now I will research other options.

I was willing to put a program into effect this spring, but the powers that control the program did not want to agree. As a result, I might reconsider my offer regarding programs for next season. I am a person of action, and I don't know if I will be willing to deal with a chain of command for no pay. Perhaps I will look further for other options. In the meantime, I work today and never know if any students will arrive at the program I offer in the park. I need to write some news releases to increase the enrollment.

I am enjoying my teaching at two places. I also got an offer to write a blurb for a writer. This would entail reading the new book and then writing something for the back cover. I said I would do it. He would even pay me.

A second person wants me to write a book with him, but I said I would teach him how to write his book himself. Time will tell what he decides. Although my classes are small, that is okay. I enjoy working with any students that show up.

I have been interviewing some stockbrokers and I find most of them fail to listen and they are more concerned with speaking.

Hola! A Fun Spanish Class and Meeting with Mario

Today I enjoyed my Spanish class. I was happy to connect with Mario Pacheco from Argentina. We are meeting at the library so that he can learn English and I can learn more Spanish. This will help both of us. Mario works at Publix and he is in a travel and work program. Soon he will leave for Dubais and other adventures. Mario is 21, handsome, and very bright. I predict that he will succeed in life since he seems to have some excellent plans. He will be taking Italian lessons and then plans on working for an airline . It is so interesting to talk with someone who speaks the Spanish language and knows the correct pronunciation. I still feel like I am in kindergarten when I try to talk to him in Spanish. His English is much better than my Spanish. In any case this should help both of us. My studies with Mario are separate from my Tues. morning Spanish classes. I met him at the market. He helped me with my groceries.

Every Day Is a New Adventure!

I was delighted to enjoy 6 lovely students today in Life Story Class. It is always fun to teach this course. Some of the students just signed up, so I am glad that we ran the class.

What a delight to begin learning about their lives. New students have lots to share. I also had some other students stop by, and they may join the next session for this class in March.

It was a fun day, in spite of lots of rain. In the afternoon I stopped at the bank and was able to successfully correct a banking problem.
